The Mystery of Southsyde Unlocked

Many years ago, the riders of Williams Lake claimed the Southsyde trail network for their own. Pioneering free-fall lines like Rad Bitz and Nibbs, the DH lines of Southsyde became legendary in the early days of Cariboo riding. Along came the Uncle Kenny revolution where epic sidehill saga’s like Jaden and Guinness cut through moss covered forests that were as green as a late April 20th afternoon.

However, Southsyde has always had its demons. Home to a concentration of motorized users, the network has been carved up by quads and motos hacking lines across ribbons of singletrack. While this has settled down in recent years, and may even be turning a page towards a greater degree of collaboration, the damage was done and it has long been tough to find your way through this vast trail network. But this is about to change….

Thanks to the support of the Cariboo Regional District and the Province of BC, the Cariboo Mountain Bike Consortium has installed over 120 signage wands throughout the Southsyde network. With nearly every intersection of legalized trail now signed, local and visiting riders should have a much easier time navigating the vast and complex network of Southsyde.

Thanks to a couple local dudes who ride bikes, teach kids, play music and more recently, pound posts – the mystery of Southsyde is revealed for all to enjoy. Thanks boys!

One thing to note is that there are a few private land parcels on the lower sections of Southsyde that require sensitivity from the riding community. Riders are encouraged to park at Wall Mart or on the rail side of South Lakeside Road so as to not block the private driveway just to the left of Prosperity Way. The network is best accessed from Ottoman Road or from the Wall Mart parking area to avoid private land.

Ride On!
